Outback Musical

Outback Musical takes viewers into the lives of children from outback Queensland as they prepare for one of the world’s most unusual musicals, while telling a deeper story about young people discovering themselves in isolation, the impacts of drought and disability and the power of creativity. The documentary is a complex, multi-faceted and joyful depiction of life in rural Australia, which challenges stereotypes about the value of the arts for remote communities.

After running in two parts on ABC Landline, Outback Musical was commissioned as a standalone documentary for iView and YouTube.  It was shortlisted for two Clarion Awards and a Rural Press Award. The multimedia feature attached to the documentary won a Clarion Award.
